by Ben Pate

Case Study:

Installing an HP LaserJet 4L printer using HP LaserJet 4L toner cartridge could turn out to be a pain because it is discontinued. However, every home office or small business needs a printer and so many features come with this printer that it is used everyday. It easily connects to a network and has more options available. Let's get started in setting up your printer.

Verify Operating Systems:

Before beginning to install a printer, verify the Operating system. Most computers are running a windows based OS usually XP or higher. But all versions work well with this printer. Mac and Linux are included. MS-DOS even though this computer is not even available will work. Checking the operating system before starting is just to make sure that the printer will work properly.

Install Drivers:

The next step is to install the drivers. The CD is needed for all Operating Systems. Installing the drivers is simple and easy. Put the CD into the CD drive and double click the setup file. It will start the process automatically. Follow the instructions by clicking next and the drivers are installed. Once complete, make sure that all updates are done. This is also done easier if the PC is already connected to the Internet. It will download automatically.

Plug in Printer:

The parallel cable is used with this printer to connect it to the computer. It has two parallel ends where one goes into the back of your printer and the other to the computer. This cable does have major differences then the USB connection such as the printing time per page will vary.

Configuration of the Software:

The computer has the ability to change certain things within the printer, such as the time frame it is actually available to print. Other things can be changed. for example the time it will start printing. It could either be started immediately or after it is spooled. These changes can be made to fit a specific need.

Networking the Printer

If there is a home network available, add your printer to it. All computers in the office can print from the same PC if added properly. There is an easy setup wizard that helps add the printer to the network. Usually on Windows 2000 and up to Windows Vista will work with this setting. Mac and Linux should also be able to connect this printer to a network.

Test Page:Print Test Page:

This will show if anything needs to be changed, such as color scheme, where the top of the page begins, and including if you need more HP toner cartridge. Check the speed of your printer also. Verify it comes out properly and there are no paper jams. It will say Print Page Successful.

Completion:

A home office is not complete without a printer. The HP LaserJet 4L printer is a great and easy asset to enhance the office setting. It gets all of the small tasks done to help the office run smoothly. The installation and final print are usually very easy if the above steps are followed. As a rule of thumb check back for updates to make sure everything runs properly.

The long life of HP printers means no worries when trying to find HP LaserJet 4L compatible toner for this printer. While local retailers often carry only the most current of HP LaserJet printer toner, online merchants have toner and ink cartrdiges in stock that will meet your every need.
