by Ben Pate

Even though the HP LaserJet 4250dtn printer has been discontinued by HP, it can still be easily found, serviced, and supplied. It is a pretty standardized high-output printer that has been designed specifically for business use. It still remains to be economically viable while still meeting many an office needs, one of which is professionalism which the HP LaserJet 4250dtn cartridge certainly hits.

The 4250dtn carries exceptional internal processing power compared to similar purpose printers. With its 80 MB standard memory and a 460 MHz 20 KC MIPS microprocessor, its 43 page-per-minute output is no surprise. Reliability is a given, as well, as it is designed to withstand a massive 200,000-page workload per month.

As the face of business changes, so does the media it is printed on. The 4250dtn is designed to work with just about all of it. You even have the ease of printing envelopes, transparencies, note cards and labels at your finger tips using HP printer toner. This printer is even able to do customizable sizes from 3 x 8.5 to 8.25 x 14 inches without causing any kind of problems.

This is a relatively-large printer at 16.5 x 21 x 19.5 inches and it bears the significant weight of 32.2 kg (just over 70 pounds). This is not a typical desktop printer. It is meant to stand alone, on a small side table or beside the work area. An ideal setup leaves the two-side printing attachment just below eye level. Often, mounting the printer on a stable, mid-sized filing cabinet suits this purpose nicely, as it is both convenient and space-efficient.

One thing the 4250dtn has that many of its competitors does not is the high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity. It is also backwards compatible since it has an IEEE 1284-B compliant parallel port for older hardware. This printer can even work as a network printer that can stand alone because it uses HP's JetDirect Fast Ethernet Embedded Print Server System. This allows the printer to be connected directly to your router and is easily set up.

When you purchase a 4250dtn, you are not just buying a printer by itself. It comes with all the accessories to make usage and setup of the machine quite easy. You will receive a right-angle power cord, a multilingual control panel overlay, a free print cartridge, system software and documentation in CD-ROM format along with support information. A Getting Started Guide that will help simplify setup is also included. It will even come with a second paper tray that can hold up to 500 sheets of paper and an attachment that allows two-sided printing.

Considering the type of business printer the 4250dtn is, it is relatively affordable compared to the others of its class. Its retail value comes in at about $1,400. You can even find a refurbished model for about $500, making them available to even small businesses that are looking for a good office computer. When you consider all that is available with this machine and the low operational cost, this adds to the value of this type of printer along with the high performance that justifies the initial cost.

Even though it is discontinued, the technology it uses still makes it desirable in today's market.
